Over 150 000 copies have been sold in 12 impressions of this important work. The authors are sisters-in-law (and passionate fishermen) Lannice Snyman and Anne Klarie. They started working on the book in the early seventies and published the first edition in 1979 through Don Nelson Publishers. This book ran to nine impressions and a second edition was published in 1991. When this, too, sold out the work was totally revamped, incorporating Free From The Sea's sequel, More From The Sea (1986). Free From The Sea is divided into three sections: the first deals with selecting, preparing, storing and methods of cooking seafood. Then there's the recipe section that includes many original recipes as well as adaptations of classical dishes to accommodate local seafood. Finally there’s an alphabetical index of each type of seafood relevant to this book, including common names, a line drawing to help identify your catch, interesting information about it, what the most successful cooking methods and a list of recipes. |
