Profile
Michael Snyman, a third generation builder, learnt his profession from his father and grandfather, spending school holidays on building sites and absorbing first hand the intricacies of the trade he grew to love.
He formed his own company in 1968, soon after graduating from building college. Over the years operations have been streamlined to specialize in areas where a small company can be best appreciated – single dwelling houses, alterations and additions and, of course, designing and renovating bathrooms and kitchens, which are an important part of the business.
Backed by a joinery factory for the production of custom built cupboards for the whole house, kitchen revamps include painting, plumbing, tiling – all the bits and pieces that give customers a "one stop" service. A new kitchen can take just one working week, including the removal of existing units, installation of new ones and doing the electrical work, plumbing, tiling and painting.
A carpenter by trade, Michael is known for his hand-crafted dining room tables and kitchen blocks, an adaptation of the old-fashioned butchers’ blocks which he custom builds to suit individual requirements. These units may be ordered, for delivery anywhere in the country.
The company’s strength lies in personal service and ultra competitive pricing. Michael does most of the work himself with a back-up of long-serving artisans and sub-contractors. He's the one who assesses the work and gives the quotation, and he’s on site throughout the job to ensure quality control and to see that the work is done properly and quickly.
Snyman Construction & Kitchens does no advertising; there’s more than enough work generated by word of mouth. The company operates from custom-built offices in Hout Bay where a demonstration kitchen and sample units may be viewed. Satisfied customers are only too happy to show off their new kitchens to prospective customers. Interesting features and finishes and the workmanship may be viewed and discussed in detail.
